Inês Ponte is the author of Educational Dossier No. 40, dedicated to the long-feature film “The Hero”, by Zézé Gamboa.

The film portrays the postwar dynamics of the city of Luanda, Angola’s capital, through the struggles of a former soldier who lost a leg on the battle front for a proper life, and three other characters who are also trying to find their place in the overpopulated city: young Manu, whose father has disappeared in the war; Judite, whose children have also disappeared in the conflict; and Joana, Manu’s teacher who believes Angola in peace can be a more equal country. 

The collection of Pedagogical Dossiers of the National Film Plan aims to support the work of teachers in the engagement of school audiences in the area of cinema. It was publicly presented on 29 April 2022 and the first numbers have since then been available in open access on the new website of the PNC:
